Centennial Parade Float

January 21, 2014

The San Diego City College Centennial Parade float was "the best" in the parade. A group of dedicated ASG and ICC students, under the leadership of parade-float-builder-extraordinaire Professor Duane Gardella, spent hundreds of hours collectively to create a moving, turning parade float that beautifully expressed the mission of Martin Luther King to Lead, Transform and Inspire. Graphic Design student Sam Spratt crafted the design for the 3' x 7' turnstiles showing AGENTS OF CHANGE through the faces of City College students. Interim President Lynn Neault proudly lead the City College brigade of students, athletes, faculty, staff and Ruby Wilson inspired dancers. See the photos in the YEARBOOK.

City today

Since City College opened its first buildings, "A" and "T" in 1956 on 3.35 acres, the college has grown to 60 acres and is now 1/5 of the downtown San Diego footprint. As we welcome alumni back to campus and tour community members around the college, all will be introduced to the new face of City College.

Through the Proposition S & N Bond Program, San Diego City College has built 5 new classroom buildings and renovated 8 others buildings. Our Science building will welcome its first classes in January and the Arts and Humanities and Business Technology buildings we be open for 2014 summer classes.

As we celebrate our first one hundred years throughout 2014, we are also preparing to launch our next one hundred years.

The Centennial is the start of a new beginning for City College. Click below on our 2013-2014 Report to the Community to see our new City College footprint!
